Lighting Suite

A comprehensive lighting analysis and management tool for finding which lights affect a surface, identifying shadow blockers, managing scene lights, creating new lights and organizing cameras and presets.

Opening the plugin

Three tabs in one dockable panel.

Open Window > Lighting Suite. The panel contains Analysis, Scene Lights and Cameras tabs.

Analysis

Inspect which lights affect a surface.

Two options control the analysis: Ignore Hidden Lights and Check Surface Angle. Both are enabled by default.

  1. Click ANALYZE SURFACE.
  2. Click a point on a surface in the viewport.
  3. The tool traces scene lights and lists those that affect the selected point.

Results

  • Light Complexity Score: Green 0–8, Yellow 9–16, Red 17+.
  • Exposure Analysis: estimated EV and main contributing light.
  • Stationary Light Overlap Warning: warns when more than four stationary shadow-casting lights overlap.

Affecting lights are listed by contribution. Each entry includes mobility, name/type and a SOLO control. Expanded entries expose editable properties such as intensity, temperature, attenuation radius, spotlight cone angle and shadow state.

Shadow Finder

Identify what blocks a light.

  1. Click FIND SHADOW.
  2. Click a shadowed area in the viewport.

The plugin traces from shadow-casting lights, reports blocked lights and the geometry responsible, and draws yellow lines toward light sources plus red lines toward blockers.

Solo Mode

Isolate individual light contribution.

Use SOLO on a light to temporarily hide the other lights. An EXIT SOLO MODE button restores the previous state.

Scene Lights

Manage the level from one panel.

The light list provides visibility, color, selection, mobility, SOLO and group-assignment controls. Search filters by name and Refresh rescans the scene.

Creating lights

Created lights default to Movable and are selected automatically.

Groups & palettes

Organize lights and apply curated color sets.

Light Groups

Create groups from the Light Groups section, then assign lights through each light's Add to Group control. Groups expose visibility, light count, SOLO and delete controls.

Groups persist in Saved/LightingSuite/LightGroups.json.

Color Palettes

Five built-in palettes are available: AutumnForest, CoolMoonlight, NeonCity, GoldenHour and StudioPortrait. Mark scene lights, then use Apply to Selected.

  • Directional lights receive the primary color.
  • Point lights receive the fill color.
  • Spotlights receive the accent color.
  • Other types alternate remaining palette colors.

Only color changes; intensity, position and other properties remain intact.

Per-light conversion and assets

Lights can be converted between Point, Spot, Directional and Rect while preserving transform, intensity, color, temperature, mobility, shadows, attenuation radius and relevant cone angles. Point, Spot and Rect lights can receive IES Profiles. Lights can also receive Light Function materials.

Cameras

Manage scene cameras and presets.

The Cameras tab lists CameraActor and CineCameraActor instances. Entries can be selected, piloted and, for CineCamera, saved as presets.

Camera presets store focal length, aperture / focus distance, sensor dimensions and aspect ratio. They persist in Saved/LightingSuite/CameraPresets.json.

Tips

Practical workflows

  • Combine Analyze Surface with Solo to understand individual contribution.
  • Use Shadow Finder to locate unexpected shadow casters.
  • Use Light Groups for scenarios such as Day and Night.
  • Spot+Aim works well for key lights.
  • Keep the Stationary Light Overlap limit in mind.
